Hogmanay hooley at home!
As 2020 draws to an end (“hooray”, we hear you say), many of us will be celebrating the new year in a slightly more subdued way than usual. There will be no street parties, ‘first footings’ or ceilidhs this year, but we can still bring in the bells in style from home.
Here are our top picks to help you celebrate…
Mix a cocktail
You can’t beat a fancy cocktail, especially when you’re celebrating. Our friends at Mix’d recently shared some festive cocktail inspiration for you to try for yourself at home. Or, to take out all the hassle, just order some of their pre-mixed cocktail pouches! Our Cocktail Box features Chocolate Vanilla Espresso Martinis, Maple Old Fashioned and our very own A Whale of a Time cocktail. Yum!
Make a memory jar
We all need to stay positive, especially at the moment, so it’s important to remember and cherish the good things that happen. Making a memory jar can be done just for yourself, for the kids or for the whole family. Simply decorate a jar and keep it throughout 2021, adding a note about any exciting or memorable that happens throughout the year. Then next Hogmanay open the jar to remember all the positive things that happened throughout the year.
Have a cook-along
Many of us would be enjoying meals with friends and family during the festive period but with the rise of video conferencing tools, such as Zoom, Teams or even FaceTime, we can still enjoy good food with good friends. Just share a recipe and list of ingredients prior to the call, the dial in and cook along together!
Play a game
How many Zoom quizzes have you done in 2020? So, a quiz of the year could be a very apt way to end the year. If you fancy something a bit more traditional, board games can be great fun with the kids. Our Family Box has the lovely Island Life Game Poster to enjoy as a family, plus other activities including a nature journal and Hebrides colouring book.
Hold a whisky/gin tasting
The Highlands and Islands have some great gins and whiskies. You could send a care package to a loved one with some of your favourite tipples so they can raise a glass to the new year or you could organise a tasting to help discover lesser-known spirits and try them with different mixers to find your favourites. We hope our whisky and gin boxes will help a few people celebrate with our favourite Highlands and Islands drinks this Hogmanay!
However you bring in the new year, we wish you health and happiness for 2021. Let us know how you’ll be celebrating on Facebook.
Happy New Year!
